What is Wrong With QB Aaron Rodgers?

By Sam Weiss

All it takes in the NFL is a few games to start getting questioned. That is what Aaron Rodgers is currently going through after a sub-par start by his standards in 2014. His team already has a pair of losses, and he is on pace for some pretty average fantasy football numbers in general. Obviously, there is quite a bit of time to figure everything out, but what should make people optimistic?

So far in 2014, his completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdown passes and passing yards are all extremely low. He is doing a pretty good job taking care of the ball, but he still does not look like the same player he has been in the past. His passes seem off for the most part, as he has missed way too many open receivers so far in 2014. He looked very shaky against the Detroit Lions in week 3, as Green Bay was only able to score 7 points in a double-digit loss to the divisional rival.

Losing in week 1 in Seattle was pretty much expected, but Green Bay hasn’t really looked all that sharp all year long. This is a team that many predicted could be a Super Bowl contender. Instead, the offense seems to be lost at this point with a banged up Eddie Lacy and a struggling Rodgers.

When a person looks at the track record for Rodgers, it is easy to see that he is somebody who has been about as consistent as they come. He was injured last year, but he was still able to put up some pretty nice numbers before and after the collarbone injury. Instead of spreading the ball around, it seems like he is way too focused on targeting Jordy Nelson over anyone else. Yes, he is probably his most talented receiver, but other guys can make plays as well.

Three games is a little bit early to really panic with Rodgers at this point. He has faced some pretty good defenses so far this year, so that obviously plays a little bit of a factor as well. Rodgers himself has reassured fans that it is not time to panic, and given his consistency, they should trust what he has to say.
